More about me

My name is Jessica and my mission is to help others on their language learning journey and ease communication between communities. Over the years, I've learned the true importance of being able to communicate with others in foreign languages which explains why I founded SPEL Langauges Ltd.

I grew up speaking and writing fluent English and Portuguese, and from the age of 12 I started learning French and Spanish at school. Realising that languages were my passion, I went on to university to study Latin American studies and picked up German at UCL. Growing up in a multicultural environment, I gained a strong understanding, as well as respect and admiration, for other cultures.  

Since graduating from UCL with a Bachelor's in Modern Language, I have volunteered different organisations, using my language skills to facilitate communication for others. One of the groups that I hold dear is Espacio mama, a group set up by Parents and Communities Together that helps to empower Latin American families, women and children in the Southwark community. I’ve seen first-hand how knowing more than one language can break barriers and help to fight isolation. This is where I gained inspiration to found SPEL Languages.

Through my translation and interpreting work, I have helped families access health services and I have also worked in event and services coordination and volunteering management and development in the non-profit sectors.
